Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This dua is recited when leaving the Masjid after completing your prayer. It's a beautiful transition from a state of worship within Allah's house to navigating the world, seeking His continued blessings and guidance for your day.

How to Read

As you physically step out of the Masjid, recite this supplication with sincerity. Imagine the bounty of Allah as vast and encompassing, and feel your dependence on Him for every aspect of your life, especially for the ability to do good.

Virtues & Benefits

When leaving the Masjid, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to ask Allah from His bounty. This means seeking more than just sustenance; it's asking for the ability to do good deeds, to be of benefit to others, and to have our lives directed towards what pleases Allah. It’s a humble acknowledgment that all good comes from Him alone. In another narration, it mentions that after reciting this, a person is protected from the evil eye and Shaytan until they return to the Masjid. This shows how deeply connected our state of worship and our interactions with the world should be, with Allah's protection as our shield.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn Abbas: When Allah's Messenger ﷺ left the mosque, he would say: > **Arabic:** اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً > **Translation:** O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds. > **Transliteration:** *Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan* And when he returned, he would say: > **Arabic:** سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ > **Translation:** Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance. > **Transliteration:** *Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaik* (Sahih Muslim 713). The specific dua for leaving the Masjid that focuses on seeking bounty is also mentioned in Sahih Muslim 713, which states that when the Prophet ﷺ left the Masjid, he would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.' (O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty.)
