Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Seeking Allah's Grace for Inner Strength

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask of Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This simple yet profound dua is recited when leaving the Masjid. It's a moment when we transition from the sacred space, filled with tranquility and connection to Allah, back into the world with its own set of challenges and temptations. Reciting this after fulfilling our prayers, especially Fajr or Maghrib which are often attended by a smaller, more dedicated group, serves as a humble request for Allah's continued assistance as we re-engage with our daily lives and the people around us.

How to Read

As you step out of the Masjid, turn your left foot out first, holding your right hand towards the door. Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing on your need for Allah's grace. It's a personal supplication, acknowledging that our strength and success in navigating the world comes solely from Him.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua to seek Allah's abundant grace as we leave His house. It acknowledges that our ability to resist negative influences and to remain steadfast on our deen in the face of societal pressures is not from our own power, but from the continuous bestowal of Allah's favor. It's a recognition of our dependence on Him for success in this life and the hereafter, especially when faced with the potential for backbiting, idle talk, or other forms of social engagement that might stray from what is pleasing to Allah.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When anyone of you performs prayer in my mosque, let him pray two rak'ahs, and when he leaves, let him not sit until he has prayed two rak'ahs.' Sahih Muslim 713. Although the full hadith mentions praying two rak'ahs upon leaving, the specific dua for asking from Allah's bounty is a crucial element of this transition, reflecting a broader principle of seeking His help when leaving a place of worship.
