Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Invoking Allah to Grant Us the Ability to Benefit from Our Knowledge

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This supplication is recited after completing the prayer and before exiting the Masjid, especially after Friday prayer or any other obligatory or voluntary prayer. It's a beautiful way to carry the barakah (blessing) of the Masjid and the knowledge gained within it into our daily lives.

How to Read

Recite this dua after finishing your prayer, as you prepare to leave the Masjid. Ideally, you would turn towards the Qiblah briefly after your Tasleem (final salutations), or simply as you rise to leave. Focus on the meaning, asking Allah to grant you success and provision from His infinite Grace.

Virtues & Benefits

This simple yet profound dua acknowledges that all success and provision come from Allah. By asking for His bounty as we leave His House, we are essentially asking Him to bless our efforts and endeavors outside the Masjid. It reminds us that the knowledge we gain, whether from the Khutbah, a lecture, or personal reflection, should be a means to attain Allah's pleasure and benefit ourselves and the Ummah. This is a practical application of seeking knowledge with the intention of implementing it and seeking Allah's help in doing so.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you finishes his prayer, let him say after his salutations, not but good: O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty.' (Sahih Muslim 713) Scholars have explained that this 'bounty' encompasses all good in this life and the Hereafter, including the ability to benefit from religious knowledge and act upon it.
