Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5095

بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللهِ

In the name of Allah, I have relied upon Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

When to Read

This powerful supplication is recited when stepping out of your home, especially in the early morning before sunrise. It's a beautiful way to begin your day with dependence on Allah (SWT) before facing any of its challenges.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction as you make your first step out of your house. Imagine the words as a shield and a source of strength provided by Allah. It's simple yet profound, a declaration of faith in His power and protection.

Virtues & Benefits

When you recite this dua, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that it is said to you: 'You are guided, defended and protected.' The devil keeps away from you. This means that Allah (SWT) appoints angels to guide you, protect you from harm, and ward off Shaytan's temptations and evil whispers. It's a comprehensive safety net for your journey.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, 'When a person leaves his house and says: 'Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (In the name of Allah, I have relied upon Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah), it is said to him: 'You are guided, defended and protected.' And the devil is driven away from him.' Then one of the devils says: 'How can you get to a man whom he (Allah) has guided, defended and protected?' — Sunan Abi Dawud 5095, Sahih Muslim 134
