بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ.
In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.
Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.
When to Read
This beautiful and comprehensive dua should be recited just as you are stepping out of your home with the intention of visiting relatives or embarking on any journey. It's a declaration of dependence on Allah as you leave the safety of your home for the wider world.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of reliance on Allah. As you say 'Bismillah,' you are invoking His name for protection. 'Tawakkaltu 'alallah' signifies your active trust in Him, and 'wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' acknowledges that all strength and power originate solely from Him, helping to humble our own sense of capability and focus on His provision.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised incredible protection for the one who recites this dua upon leaving their home. It is narrated that when this is said, it is proclaimed: 'You are guided, defended, and protected. The devils will stay away from you, and one devil will say, 'How can you get to a man whom he has been guided, defended, and protected?' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5095). This means Allah appoints angels to guide, defend, and protect you from harm and the mischief of Shaytan.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'When a man goes out of his house saying: 'Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah,' it will be said to him: 'You have been sufficed, protected, and guided.' The devil will be kept away from him.' Then one of the devils said: 'How can you get to a man whom he has been guided, defended, and protected?'
