Dua for Peace of Mind When Leaving Home After an Argument

Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5095

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

When to Read

This dua is perfect for reciting just as you step out of your home, especially after a disagreement. The heat of an argument can linger, making our departure fraught with tension or regret. Saying this invokes Allah's protection and blessing over our journey, helping to clear our minds and hearts.

How to Read

Recite this clearly and with intention as you are physically leaving your house. Place your right foot out first, and say it with conviction, meaning it from your heart. It's not just words; it's an acknowledgement of your dependence on Allah for safety and guidance.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised immense benefits for those who recite this dua upon leaving their homes. It is reported that when he ﷺ was asked about what is said when a person leaves their home, he replied: 'It will be said to him then: "You are guided, you are defended, and you are protected." Then Satan will say to another Satan: "How can you get to a man whom he has been guided, who has been defended and has been protected?"' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5095). Imagine leaving after a difficult conversation, knowing you are divinely guided, defended from harm, and protected from any further negativity or ill-intent. It offers a powerful sense of peace and security.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Anas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'When a man leaves his house, he says: Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. (In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah.) Then it will be said to him: "You are guided, you are defended, and you are protected." Then Satan will keep away from him. Another Satan will say to the first one: "How can you get to a man whom he has been guided, who has been defended and has been protected?"'
