Dua for Leaving Home with Inner Peace After a Spiritual Retreat

Leaving Home
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5095

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. And there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

When to Read

This dua is especially poignant when leaving your home after a period of spiritual renewal, like returning to daily life after a retreat. It’s meant to be said as you step out of your dwelling, carrying the tranquility and focus you cultivated back into the world.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincerity as you make your way out of your home. Pause for a moment to embody the meaning: acknowledging Allah's name, entrusting your affairs to Him, and recognizing that all strength and ability come only from Him. This isn't just words; it's an internal recalibration.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a shield. When a person says this upon leaving their home, it is said: 'You will be guided, defended, and made independent of need.' This offers profound peace and assurance as you re-enter your routine, reminding you that your spiritual grounding remains with you.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Anas that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'When a man goes out of his house and says: Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. It will be said to him: You have been sufficed, protected, and guided. And the devil will move away from him, and another devil will say to him: What can you do with a man who has been guided, sufficed and protected?'
