Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5200

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

When to Read

This dua is recited immediately before leaving one's home for any purpose – whether it's for work, visiting family, attending a class, or any other outing. It's a way to begin your journey with the blessings and protection of Allah.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity, understanding each word. It's recommended to say it while stepping out of your house. Some scholars mention saying it while placing your right foot out of the door. The key is the intention of relying completely on Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised great rewards for reciting this dua. In one narration, when this dua is said, it is announced to the reciter: 'You have been guided, you are taken care of, and you are protected.' The devil is then repelled from him, and another devil says: 'How can you get to a man whom has been guided, taken care of, and protected?' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5095). This means Allah suffices you, guides you, and protects you from all harm, seen and unseen, including the whispers of Shaytan.
