Leaving Home
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 2600

In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah. O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this journey and the goodness of what is in it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this journey and the evil of what is in it. O Allah, make this journey easy for me and bring the earth closer for me. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, the sorrow of seeing a bad sight, and the evil outcome in property and family.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught his companions, 'When you set out on a journey, say: Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. (In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah). It will be said to you then: 'You are guided, you are made independent, and you are protected.' Thus, the devil stays away from you.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 2600). Another version taught by the Prophet (peace be upon him) for travel includes: 'O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this journey and the goodness of what is in it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this journey and the evil of what is in it. O Allah, make this journey easy for me and bring the earth closer for me. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, the sorrow of seeing a bad sight, and the evil outcome in property and family.' (Sunan An-Nasa'i 4173).
