Gratitude for Witnessing Eid al-Adha

Gratitude
Sahih HadithThis is a general supplication reflecting gratitude for Allah's blessings and seeking His help, common among scholars and pious individuals. While not a single narrated dua from the Prophet ﷺ specifically for Eid al-Adha, it encapsulates the spirit of thanks and reliance on Allah during this blessed time.

All praise is for Allah for what He has bestowed and given glad tidings of. And peace and blessings be upon His chosen Messenger. O Allah, guide us with Your guidance, and make our deeds in Your cause. Accept from us, and aid us in remembering You, thanking You, and worshipping You in the best way. Grant us victory over ourselves and over our enemies. Guide us as You guided the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ, and make us among Your righteous servants.

Al-hamdu lillahi 'ala ma an'ama wa bashshara, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulihil-mujtaba. Allahumma ihdina bi-hadyika, waj'al 'amalana fi sabilika, waqbal minna, wa a'inna 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika, wan-surana 'ala anfusina wa 'ala 'aduwwina, wahdina bima hadayta bihi ummata Muhammadin ﷺ, waj'alna min 'ibadika as-salihin.

When to Read

This supplication is fitting to recite at any point during the days of Eid al-Adha, especially after the Eid prayer, during gatherings with family, or when reflecting on the blessings of this occasion. It serves as a beautiful way to express gratitude for being able to witness and participate in this blessed festival.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude. Imagine the blessings Allah has bestowed upon you, from your faith to the simple ability to celebrate Eid. Reflect on the sacrifices made by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and feel the joy of being part of this Ummah. Raising hands is recommended for general supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

Expressing gratitude (Shukr) is a highly rewarded act in Islam. Allah says: "...And whoever is grateful is only grateful for [the benefit of] his own soul." (An-Naml 27:40). Gratitude opens doors to more blessings, as Allah promises: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]..." (Ibrahim 14:7). This dua also encompasses seeking guidance, acceptance of deeds, and strength, all vital for a believer, especially during a time of worship and reflection like Eid al-Adha.
