اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ

O Allah, help me to remember You, to give thanks to You, and to worship You in the best manner.

Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika

When to Read

This is a profound dua that can be recited at any time, but it's especially powerful after completing a prayer (Salah). Think about the moments just after you've finished your salah, when your heart is still soft and connected to Allah. This is a prime opportunity to express gratitude for the very ability to have stood before your Creator and offered Him worship. It can also be recited after any act of worship, or even just as a general prayer for assistance in remembering and thanking Allah throughout your day.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus. Understand the meaning behind each part: 'help me to remember You' acknowledges that remembering Allah is not always easy in our busy lives; 'to give thanks to You' is a recognition of all His blessings, including the immense blessing of being guided to Islam and prayer; and 'to worship You in the best manner' is a request for guidance to perfect our salah and all other acts of devotion. Imagine asking a loving Father for the strength and ability to be a good servant. Raise your hands if you feel particularly moved, as this is a sunnah in making dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is directly taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to help us maintain a strong connection with Allah. It's a comprehensive request that covers the core aspects of our relationship with our Lord: remembering Him, being grateful for His favors, and striving to improve our worship. By asking for help in these areas, we are seeking Allah's assistance to fulfill our primary purpose in life. The Prophet ﷺ himself would often make this dua, showing its importance. It helps guard against forgetfulness and neglect, and it elevates our worship from mere ritual to a heartfelt expression of devotion.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked about the best supplication. He said: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' Then he was asked about the best way of seeking forgiveness. He said: 'O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me, and I am Your servant. I am bound by Your covenant and by what power so ever I have of the promise to Thee. I seek refuge in Thee from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Thy favour upon me, and I acknowledge my sin. So forgive me, for no one can forgive sins except Thee.' He said: 'And he who says this during the day, and dies before the evening, he will be among the people of Paradise. And if he says it at night, and dies before the morning, he will be among the people of Paradise.' Another narration mentions: 'The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ once passed by Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was supplicating and said: 'What is this supplication you are making?' Abu Bakr replied: 'I am supplicating for something that is good for me and for the Muslims.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Shall I not teach you a supplication which you may supplicate with, and if you were to supplicate with it as heavy as the whole of the debt of the whole of the world, Allah would pay it for you?' Abu Bakr said: 'Yes, teach me.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Say: O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none can forgive sins except Thee. So, grant me forgiveness. Verily, You are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.' He then said: 'And shall I not teach you a supplication which you may supplicate with, and which will benefit you and the Muslims?' Abu Bakr said: 'Yes.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Say: O Allah, help me to remember You, and to give thanks to You, and to worship You in the best manner.'
