All praise is due to Allah, Who has saved me from that which He has tested you with, and has preferred me over many of His creations with a great preference.
Alhamdulillah alladhi 'afani mimma ibtalaka bihi, wa faddalani 'ala kathirim mimman khalaqa tafdila
When to Read
This dua is recited when you see someone afflicted with a trial, illness, poverty, or any form of hardship. It's a moment to pause and reflect on Allah's blessings in your own life, acknowledging that whatever good you have is from Him.
How to Read
Recite this dua softly, ideally to yourself, so as not to cause further embarrassment or distress to the person experiencing hardship. The intention is to acknowledge Allah's blessings and express gratitude, not to boast or look down on others. It's about humility and thankfulness.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua cultivates a profound sense of gratitude and contentment. By recognizing that we are safe from a particular trial, we acknowledge Allah's protection ( 'afiyah ) and His bestowal of favors. It reminds us of our dependence on Him and the importance of appreciating the blessings we often take for granted. The hadith emphasizes this by stating that whoever says this will be kept safe from that particular affliction.
Source & Authentication
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Whoever sees an afflicted person and says: 'Alhamdulillah alladhi 'afani mimma ibtalaka bihi, wa faddalani 'ala kathirim mimman khalaqa tafdila' (All praise is due to Allah, Who has saved me from that which He has tested you with, and has preferred me over many of His creations with a great preference) - then he will be kept safe from that affliction, whatever it may be. (Reported by At-Tirmidhi and others, and authenticated by Al-Albani as Hasan)
