O Allah, send Your mercy upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent Your mercy upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed the Praiseworthy, the Glorious. O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent Your blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.
When to Read
This beautiful supplication, known as the Salawat Ibrahimiyyah, is part of the obligatory prayers (Salah). It's also highly recommended to recite it frequently outside of prayer, especially when reflecting on the immense blessing Allah has bestowed upon us through the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Making this dua acknowledges our debt of gratitude for his guidance, his example, and his mercy towards us, the Ummah.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of appreciation for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Understand the weight of asking Allah to send mercy and blessings upon him and his family, just as He did upon Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). It is a powerful way to connect with the Prophet ﷺ and to express our love for him. You can say it after a good deed, during times of reflection, or as part of your regular dhikr.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting the Salawat, especially this comprehensive form, is a direct command from Allah in the Quran (Al-Ahzab 33:56): 'Indeed, Allah confers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessings upon him and ask [Allah] to grant him peace.' Sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ is a way of showing love and respect, and it brings countless benefits, including the forgiveness of sins, elevation of ranks, and fulfillment of needs. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself said: 'Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him ten times.' (Sahih Muslim 388). By invoking the blessings of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), we are acknowledging the lineage of prophethood and the universal message of Islam.
