โœฆ

The Most Merciful taught the Quran. He created man and taught him eloquence. My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the company of] Your righteous servants.

Ar-Rahman 'allamal-Qur'an. Khalaqal-insan. 'Allamahul-bayan. Rabbi awzi'ni an ashkura ni'matakallati an'amta 'alayya wa 'ala walidayya wa an a'mala salihan tardahu wa adkhilni birahmatika fi 'ibadik-as-salihin.

When to Read

This dua can be recited at any time, but it is particularly fitting after reflecting on the profound gift of children, after they are born, or when expressing general gratitude to Allah. It is a beautiful prayer to make during times of ease and during supplication, acknowledging that children are a significant blessing from our Creator.

How to Read

Recite this heartfelt supplication with sincerity and contemplation. Begin by acknowledging Allah's grace in teaching the Quran and creating humanity, recognizing the immense blessing of speech and understanding. Then, sincerely ask Allah to grant you the ability to be thankful for the blessings He has bestowed, specifically mentioning yourself and your parents, and pray for the strength to do good deeds that please Him. Finally, implore Him to include you among His righteous servants through His mercy. It is recommended to raise your hands during supplication as a sign of earnest seeking.

Virtues & Benefits

This verse combines profound gratitude for the revelation of the Quran and the faculty of speech with a direct plea for help in fulfilling the obligation of thankfulness. It acknowledges that children are a blessing from Allah (mentioning 'my children' as 'my parents' implies progeny in this context of gratitude) and asks for divine assistance to remain grateful. By seeking to do righteous deeds and asking to be included among the righteous, one aims to please Allah and secure His mercy, thereby ensuring the well-being of oneself and one's family in this life and the next.
