Dua of Gratitude for the Arrival of Ramadan

Gratitude
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3451

O Allah, make the crescent moon appear upon us with security and faith, with safety and Islam, and with the ability to do what our Lord loves and pleases Him. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah.

Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil-amni wal-imani, was-salamati wal-islami, wat-tawfiqi lima tuhibbu Rabbana wa tarda. Rabbuna wa Rabbukal-lah.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is specifically for the sighting of the new moon marking the beginning of Ramadan. It's a perfect moment to reflect on the blessings of reaching this sacred month and to ask Allah for the best of what it holds. You can recite it right after you see the new moon, or even in anticipation as the end of Sha'ban approaches.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude. As you utter the words, visualize the security, faith, peace, and guidance you are asking for. Turn to Allah (SWT) with humility, acknowledging Him as your Lord and the Lord of the crescent moon itself. Imagine the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) teaching this to his companions – it's a connection to a cherished practice.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the essence of gratitude and foresight for Ramadan. By asking for security and faith, we are seeking a peaceful internal and external environment conducive to worship. Safety and Islam remind us of the physical and spiritual well-being that enables us to observe the month's obligations. The request for 'Tawfiq' (ability/success) is crucial, as it's Allah who grants us the strength to perform good deeds and avoid what displetes Him. This dua sets a positive and purposeful tone for our Ramadan journey.
