Dua of Gratitude for Inner Peace

Gratitude
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3809

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى نِعْمَةِ الْإِيمَانِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ.

All praise is for Allah for the blessing of faith and Islam, and all praise is for Allah in every situation.

Al-hamdulillah 'ala ni'matil-iman wal-Islam, wal-hamdulillah 'ala kulli haal.

When to Read

This profound statement, offered by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is perfect for reciting during moments when you feel a deep sense of contentment and tranquility. It's especially fitting after reflecting on the blessings of Allah, when the worries of the world fade and you feel a secure connection to Him. Think of it as a spiritual exhale, acknowledging the peace He has placed in your heart.

How to Read

Recite this with a sincere heart, focusing on the meaning of 'al-hamdulillah' – acknowledging that all praise and thanks are due to Allah alone. Feel the gratitude for the fundamental gifts of *iman* (faith) and *Islam* (submission to Allah). Then, let the phrase '*'ala kulli haal*' (in every situation) resonate, understanding that even in hardship, there's wisdom and a test, and even in ease, there's a responsibility. Let it be a reflection of a truly peaceful heart that finds contentment regardless of external circumstances.

Virtues & Benefits

This statement cultivates a constant state of gratitude, a cornerstone of inner peace. By acknowledging Allah's blessings of faith and Islam, we are reminded of the greatest gifts that bring true solace. Recognizing that all praise is due to Allah 'in every situation' helps us to accept His decree, both the good and the seemingly bad, with a calm heart. This acceptance is the very essence of tranquility, preventing anxiety and distress from taking root. It fosters a spiritual resilience, as the believer understands that their ultimate peace comes from their connection with their Creator, not from fleeting worldly conditions.

Narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Cursing the Muslim is wickedness and fighting with them is disbelief. And whoever slanders his brother, Allah will expose his slander on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever relieves a Muslim of a hardship, Allah will relieve him of one of his hardships on the Day of Resurrection. And the most excellent of deeds is a word of truth spoken to a tyrant.' Then he said: 'O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, this is how I have learned. Indeed, the most excellent of deeds is a word of truth spoken to a tyrant.' Then he said: 'O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, whoever asks Allah for paradise three times, paradise will say: O Allah, admit him into Paradise. And whoever seeks protection from the Hellfire three times, Hellfire will say: O Allah, protect him from it. And whoever supplicates for forgiveness one hundred times, it will be like freeing one hundred slaves.' Then he said: 'Al-hamdulillah 'ala ni'matil-iman wal-Islam, wal-hamdulillah 'ala kulli haal.'
