Dua for Strength in Hardship and Gratitude for Resilience

Gratitude
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3540

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever executed. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have named Yourself with, or revealed to any of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the delight of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibn 'abdik, ibn amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

This dua is a powerful means of seeking relief from distress and finding peace. By turning to the Quran as a source of comfort and guidance, we acknowledge Allah's wisdom and mercy. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated about this dua: 'No one asks with these words, but Allah will take away his distress and replace it with joy.' (Ahmad). This shows the immense power of turning to Allah with sincere supplication, especially when seeking strength through His divine book.

Narrated Abdullah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'There is no one who has been afflicted with anxiety and grief, and then says: *Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibn 'abdik, ibn amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.* (O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. But Allah will take away his distress and grief and replace it with joy in his stead.' It was said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Should we not learn these words?' He replied, 'Yes, indeed. It is necessary for everyone who hears them after me to learn them.' (Ahmad)
