الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
All praise is due to Allah, who brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.
Al-hamdu lillahilladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatana wa ilaihin-nushoor
When to Read
This is the supplication the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would recite immediately upon waking up from sleep. It's a profound expression of gratitude for the gift of life and consciousness after the 'mini-death' of sleep.
How to Read
Recite this dua softly as you become aware you are awake. Reflect on the meaning of being brought back to life and the eventual return to Allah. It's a gentle way to start your day, acknowledging Allah's power and your dependence on Him.
Virtues & Benefits
Expressing gratitude for waking up is a Sunnah practice that cultivates awareness of Allah's blessings. Sleep is a sign of Allah's power, wherein He takes souls (in a manner of speaking), and waking is His mercy. This dua reminds us of our dependence on Him for every breath and the ultimate return to Him.

Narrated Hudhaifa: Whenever the Prophet ﷺ went to sleep, he would say: 'Bismika amutu wa ahya' (With Your Name I die and live). And when he woke up, he would say: 'Al-hamdu li-llahil-ladhi ahyaana ba'da ma amaatana wa ilaihin-nushoor' (All praise is due to Allah, who brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection).
