اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا
O Allah, make it a beneficial downpour.
Allahumma sayyiban nafi'an
When to Read
This dua is specifically for when rain begins, but the sentiment of gratitude extends to appreciating any favorable weather, including clear skies that allow us to go about our lives, work, and worship without undue hardship. When you look up at a bright, clear sky after a period of difficult weather, or simply recognize it as a blessing, take a moment to offer thanks.
How to Read
This is a short, simple supplication. Recite it with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude. You can say it aloud or silently. The act of acknowledging Allah's blessings in the weather is the core intention.
Virtues & Benefits
Expressing gratitude for Allah's favors, big or small, is a way to increase those blessings. Allah says in the Quran: "And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]" (Ibrahim 14:7). Acknowledging the clear sky as a blessing from Allah strengthens our connection to Him and reminds us that even seemingly mundane things are acts of His mercy and power.
Source & Authentication
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were on a journey with the Prophet (peace be upon him), and some people were calling out: 'O Allah, give us rain that quenches!' So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'O Allah, make it a beneficial downpour.' (Allahumma sayyiban nafi'an). And it rained for six days. It was on the seventh day that we said: 'O Allah, lift it from around us, not upon us.' So Allah lifted it from around them.
