O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatek
When to Read
This powerful supplication is for anyone struggling with envy or ill will towards others, or fearing that their own blessings might be taken away due to discontent. It's particularly relevant when you notice negative feelings arising towards someone who has been blessed, or when you feel dissatisfaction with your own state, which can lead to ill will. Reciting it regularly, especially after Salah or during times of reflection, can help purify the heart and foster gratitude.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart, truly seeking Allah's protection. Raise your hands as you would in other supplications. Understand the meaning deeply, reflecting on your dependence on Allah for all His blessings and protection. Repeat it consistently to strengthen your spiritual resilience against negative emotions.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly addresses the roots of envy and ill will: dissatisfaction with Allah's decree and a lack of gratitude for His favors. By seeking refuge in Allah, we ask Him to shield us from the loss of the very things that might trigger envy in others or that we might envy in them. It fosters a state of contentment (qana'ah) and submission to Allah's will, which are essential for good character and inner peace. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to protect against the loss of blessings and divine favor, which is the ultimate safeguard against spiritual and material decline.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to seek refuge in Allah with these words: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatek.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.)
