O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, the transformation of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that displeases You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from my anxieties and sorrows, my weaknesses and laziness, my cowardice and stinginess, the burden of debt and the subjugation of men. O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of all things and their Master, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul, and from the evil of Satan and his temptations, and from my doing evil to myself or dragging a Muslim into it.

The full hadith describes Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaching Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to recite this dua regularly. Abu Bakr asked the Prophet ﷺ to teach him a comprehensive supplication. The Prophet ﷺ responded by teaching him this dua, emphasizing its importance. Narrated Abu Bakr: I said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'Teach me words that I should say in the morning and in the evening.' He said: 'O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of everything and its Possessor, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Satan and his associates.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me words that I should say when I wake up in the morning and when I go to bed at night.' He said: 'You should say: O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of everything and its Possessor, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Satan and his associates, and from bringing evil upon myself or casting it upon any Muslim.' He then mentioned one which is more comprehensive: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, the transformation of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that displeases You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Satan and his associates, and from my doing evil to myself or dragging a Muslim into it.'
