Virtues & Benefits
This supplication, taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, carries immense spiritual weight. By asking to live and die in a state of acknowledging one's need for Allah (miskin), and to be resurrected among the truly needy (who are often most in need of Allah's mercy), we cultivate deep humility and dependency on our Creator. This mindset naturally leads to greater compassion for those facing hardship in this world. It shifts our focus from worldly possessions to spiritual wealth and Allah's grace, reminding us that true richness lies in our relationship with Him and our concern for fellow humans. This fosters the development of empathy and a desire to help the less fortunate, aligning our character with the teachings of Islam. The Prophet ﷺ himself exemplified this spirit, often praying for protection from the trials of poverty and richness, seeking balance and contentment.
