O Allah, guide me to the truth in that which disagreement exists, by Your leave. Indeed, You guide whom You will to a straight path.
Allahumma ihdini lima-khtulifa feehi minal-haqqi bi-idhnika, innaka tahdi man tasha'u ila siratin mustaqeem.
When to Read
This powerful dua is particularly beneficial on Friday, a day dedicated to seeking knowledge and reflection. You can recite it after the obligatory prayers, especially after Fajr or Asr, or during the special hour on Friday when supplications are readily accepted. Its essence is about seeking divine guidance in times of confusion and differing opinions, making it relevant whenever you encounter complex issues or are seeking clarity on matters of faith and life.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands as you would in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Ensure you pronounce the Arabic words clearly, contemplating the meaning as you speak. Remember that seeking guidance is a continuous process, so making this a regular practice, especially on Fridays, will strengthen your ability to discern truth.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication directly asks Allah for guidance to the truth amidst differing views. The ability to discern truth from falsehood is a profound blessing, protecting one from misguidance and allowing for sound decision-making in all aspects of life. It aligns with the Quranic verse emphasizing Allah's guidance: 'And Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path' (Yunus 10:25). By seeking this specific guidance, we align ourselves with that straight path.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say when he stood for prayer at night: 'O Allah, Lord of Jibril, Mika'il, and Israfil, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and that which is apparent, You judge between Your servants in that wherein they differed. Guide me to that wherein we differed concerning the truth, by Your leave. For You guide whom You will to a straight path.' (Sahih Muslim 770). While this hadith mentions it in the context of night prayer, the core request for guidance in differing matters is universally applicable, especially on a day like Friday when such guidance is particularly sought.
