Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up for a long time and he did not say anything. Then he said: 'O people, there has come to you salvation from your Lord, and the protection of your enemy is not protection for you against Allah. O people, the path of the righteous is a long one, and it is beset with the hardships of this world and the next. And the path of the wicked is a short one, and it is replete with the pleasures of this world and its temptations. He who is blessed with a good thing in this world is blessed with it, and he who is blessed with a good thing in the Hereafter is blessed with it. I have left you on the clearest of paths, the night of which is like its day. No one deviates from it after me except he perishes. And whoever among you lives after me, he will see great differences. Beware of innovations, for they are deviations. So, whatever you see of the innovations, then cling to what you know of the matter, which is established from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. And whatever deeds are performed not by my command, then they are rejected. Do not go out in the struggle until you are called to it, and do not exert yourselves in it until you are commanded to do so. And let not one of you be a bridge for the oppressors, and do not give yourselves to them to make them prevail. And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'O Allah, forgive me my sin, all of it, the small and the great, the first and the last, the apparent and the hidden.'
