"There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers."
La ilaha illa Anta, subhanaka, inni kuntu minaz-zalimin
When to Read
This powerful dua is universally applicable, especially during times of distress, hardship, or when seeking Allah's forgiveness for our shortcomings. It's a profound way to acknowledge Allah's oneness and our own dependence on Him, particularly when we feel overwhelmed or have made mistakes.
How to Read
Recite with sincerity and heartfelt conviction, recognizing Allah's absolute power and mercy. Understand the meaning behind each word: acknowledging Tawhid (Oneness of Allah), glorifying Him above any imperfection, and confessing one's own sins and mistakes as a form of humility. It's recommended to recite this with a sincere heart, whether in times of ease or difficulty.
Virtues & Benefits
The Quran tells us that this was the dua of Prophet Yunus (Jonah) (peace be upon him) when he was cast into the sea and swallowed by a great fish. Allah tells us, "So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers." (Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:88). This signifies that Allah hears and answers this dua, rescuing those who call upon Him in this manner. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said, 'The supplication of Dhul-Nun (Yunus) when he called out to his Lord from the belly of the whale was: 'La ilaha illa Anta, Subhanaka, inni kuntu minaz-zalimin.' (O Allah, there is no god but You, glory be to You, I have been wrong). It was never recited by a person in distress but Allah would answer it for them.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3505 - Hasan Garib).
