O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuja'ati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatik.
When to Read
This dua is comprehensive and can be recited at any time, especially when feeling distant from Allah or concerned about having committed an act that might have earned His displeasure. It's particularly beneficial when seeking refuge from potential negative consequences of one's actions. Reciting it in the morning and evening, as is the Sunnah for many protective duas, is highly recommended.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Understand the meaning of each phrase you utter. It is best to raise your hands slightly while making this dua, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ in similar supplications.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua seeks protection from four severe spiritual and worldly harms: the loss of favors, the withdrawal of well-being and health, unexpected divine retribution, and ultimately, incurring Allah's anger. By reciting this, we are actively seeking Allah's mercy and asking Him to shield us from the consequences of our shortcomings and sins that might lead to His displeasure. It's a powerful way to maintain spiritual vigilance and remind ourselves of our dependence on Allah's continuous grace.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge with Allah from four things, saying: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuja'ati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatik.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure.)
