Dua for Forgiveness and Release from the Grips of Envy

Forgiveness
QuranSurah Al 'Imran 2697

Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our excesses in our affair and make firm our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people. O Allah, forgive me, have mercy upon me, guide me, grant me well-being, and provide for me.

Rabbana-ghfir lana dhunoobana wa israafana fi amrina wa-thabbit aqdaamana wa-nsurna 'alal-qawmil-kafirin. Allahumma-ghfir li, warhamni, wahdini, wa 'aafini, warzuqni.

When to Read

This dua can be recited at any time, but it is particularly potent during the last third of the night, after prayers, or when feeling the pangs of envy and seeking Allah's help. It is also an excellent supplication to make when seeking forgiveness for any transgression, including those that might fuel envy.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and deep reflection on the meaning. Imagine Allah's infinite mercy and power to forgive and to heal the heart. Raising your hands is a recommended etiquette for supplication. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, though it is not a strict condition for this dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua encompasses seeking forgiveness for our sins and extravagance, a crucial step in purifying the heart from negative traits like envy. It also directly asks for steadfastness and victory against disbelief, which envy can subtly encourage by making us resent Allah's blessings upon others. The second part is a comprehensive request for Allah's mercy, guidance, health, and sustenance, all of which are antidotes to the discontent that envy breeds. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would frequently make this comprehensive supplication.
