Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited after Fajr prayer. However, its essence of seeking beneficial knowledge, good provision, and deeds that are accepted by Allah is applicable at any time. As the evening draws in and tasks or reflections begin, reciting this can reorient our intentions towards what is pleasing to Allah, helping us find strength and focus in those pursuits.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Raise your hands if possible, as is the practice during supplication. Focus on the meaning of each word: asking Allah for knowledge that benefits, sustenance that is pure and lawful, and actions that He will accept. Let this serve as a reminder that even our daily tasks and efforts are acts of worship when done with the right intention.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a comprehensive request for a believer's well-being in this life and the hereafter. Beneficial knowledge illuminates the path and guides actions. Good provision supports our ability to worship Allah and care for our families. Most importantly, asking for deeds to be accepted ensures our efforts are not in vain, but are rewarded by our Creator. When we seek these three things, our evening tasks, whether work, study, or personal development, can become imbued with purpose and spiritual significance.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When the morning prayer is offered, say: Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and acceptable deeds). If you say this during the day and die that day, you will have received the reward for it. And if you say it during the night and die that night, you will have received the reward for it.'
