When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited in the evening. It's part of the Sunnah practices for the night, offering protection as we transition from the day and prepare for rest. Imagine yourself settling down for the night, perhaps after Maghrib or before sleep. This is the perfect time to invoke Allah's ultimate protection.

How to Read

Recite this dua three times. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to repeat certain duas for emphasis and a greater sense of seeking refuge. As you recite, feel the weight of the words, truly seeking shelter in Allah's complete and perfect attributes – His words, which encompass all knowledge and power. Envision His protection encompassing your entire being, shielding you from any harm.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a shield against all forms of physical ailments and dangers that may arise from the creations of Allah. By seeking refuge in His perfect words, we acknowledge His absolute power and authority over all things, seen and unseen. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'Whoever says this three times in the evening will be protected from any sting [or harm] until morning.' (Sahih Muslim 2708). This means that by the grace of Allah, whatever harms or poisons may exist, or whatever creatures have been created with harm in them, will not be able to harm you.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what a night I had last night!' He said: 'What happened?' He said: 'I was stung by a scorpion.' He said: 'As for the evening you said: A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq ('I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created'), then it would not have harmed you.'
