Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

اللَّهُمَّ قَضَاءَ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةَ الرِّجَالِ

O Allah, help me to pay off debts and overcome men.

Allahumma qada'a ad-dayni wa ghalabat ar-rijal

When to Read

This dua is recommended to be recited in the evening, as part of the Adhkar (remembrance of Allah) before sleeping. It's particularly poignant after the obligatory prayers, asking Allah for assistance in managing our worldly responsibilities, specifically the burden of debt and the challenges that come with dealing with people.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, recognizing that true strength and ability come only from Allah. It's best to say it as you are settling down for the night, reflecting on the day and seeking Allah's protection and help for the coming day. The phrase 'qada'a ad-dayn' refers to fulfilling obligations, including financial debts, while 'ghalabat ar-rijal' can mean overcoming those who might seek to overpower or wrong you, or simply having your matters settled justly.

Virtues & Benefits

By reciting this dua, we actively seek Allah's assistance in two crucial areas of life: financial well-being and social interaction. Fulfilling debts brings peace of mind and frees us from worry. Seeking help to 'overcome men' isn't about aggression, but about having our rights protected, our affairs managed justly, and being safe from the harm or dominance of others. This dua reflects the Prophet's ﷺ comprehensive approach to seeking Allah's help in all aspects of life, big and small. It reminds us that even our worldly struggles can be eased through sincere supplication.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah from four things, mentioning them in his prayers: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Hell-fire, and from the punishment in the grave, and from the trial of the Dajjal, and from the trial of life and death.' He also used to say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from all evil, and from the evil of all affairs, and from the evil of what I do and what I delay.' And he would say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and from being overcome by men.'
