Narrated by Aban bin Uthman: My father said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Whoever says: 'Bismillahilladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Samee'ul-'Aleem' three times in the morning, will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the evening. And whoever says it three times in the evening, will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the morning.' When Aban was struck by paralysis, he began to look at the person who had narrated the hadith to him, and Aban said: 'What is this? For Abu Dawud said: 'Aban bin Uthman was paralyzed from the hip down, and he started to look at the face of the person who narrated it to him. Then Aban said to him: 'What is the matter with you? Narrate the hadith to me as you narrated it to me, for by Allah, I did not tell a lie about it, nor did I intend to lie.' It is also true that a stroke did not befall me. But Allah's decree is true and necessary.' (Sunan Abu Dawud 5088, narrated by Aban bin Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) who was relaying it from his father, Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him)).
