Evening Supplication for Acceptance of Duas and Actions

Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7345

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This is a powerful dua to recite as evening approaches. It's particularly fitting after you've finished your day's work or tasks, seeking Allah's blessing and acceptance over what you've done, and for the knowledge and provision you'll need moving forward.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction, preferably after the Asr prayer or as night begins to fall. Raise your hands if possible, facing the Qiblah, and call upon Allah with humility.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses three crucial aspects for a believer: seeking knowledge that benefits both this life and the next, asking for sustenance that is pure and lawful (halal), and most importantly, imploring Allah to accept our deeds. Acceptance of our actions is paramount, as even good deeds may be nullified if not done for the right reasons or if not accepted by Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his wife Juwayriyah (may Allah be pleased with her) after she spent the morning remembering Allah, showing its importance in seeking continuous blessings throughout the day and night.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out from my apartment in the morning as I was in my place of prayer. He came back in the forenoon when the Kuwaiti vessel had landed and unloaded its cargo. He (ﷺ) sat on my prayer carpet. I had placed my prayer carpet for him. He prayed the afternoon prayer with us, or it may be that he had prayed the noon prayer and then had sat with us for the afternoon prayer. He (ﷺ) heard my voice and said: What is this sound? I said: It is I, Juwayriyah. He said: What are you saying? I said: I am saying SubhanAllah thrice, and Alhamdulillah thrice, and La ilaha illallah thrice, and Allahu Akbar thrice. And I am seeking His forgiveness a number of times. He (ﷺ) said: Say: Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan. And when you have ended the prayer, say: SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi 'adada khalqihi, wa ridha nafsihi, wa zinata 'arshihi, wa midada kalimatihi (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him, as many times as the number of His creatures, and as much as He is pleased with Himself, and as much as the weight of His Throne, and as much as the ink of His words).
