Dua for Seeking Allah's Help to Overcome Procrastination Before Night

Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5903

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt and overcome by men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely and with full conviction in your heart. Imagine yourself speaking directly to Allah, seeking His protection and assistance. It's best recited after completing your evening prayers or as part of your regular evening remembrance (adhkar). Let the words truly resonate, acknowledging your own limitations and the boundless power of Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his noble companion Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), directly addresses the root causes of procrastination: worry, sadness, weakness, and laziness. By seeking refuge in Allah from these afflictions, you're not just asking for help to finish tasks, but for a deeper inner strength and motivation. Overcoming laziness (kasal) is key to being productive and fulfilling our responsibilities before the day ends.
