Dua for Seeking Allah's Help Against Laziness and Procrastination in the Evening

Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the overpowering of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This powerful dua is an excellent supplication to recite as the evening sets in, perhaps after Maghrib or before bed. It's particularly relevant when you feel the day slipping away with unfinished tasks, or a sense of lethargy creeping in, making it hard to focus on productive or righteous deeds.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a heartfelt plea to Allah. Raise your hands if possible, as is the Sunnah when making dua. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly seeking Allah's protection from these specific afflictions. Reflect on how laziness and procrastination can hinder both your worldly progress and your spiritual growth.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua specifically protects us from 'al-'ajzi wal-kasali' – helplessness and laziness. By seeking refuge in Allah from these, we are asking for the strength and motivation to overcome procrastination, to act decisively, and to fulfill our responsibilities. It helps us to combat the inertia that can prevent us from engaging in beneficial activities, whether it's work, study, family obligations, or acts of worship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself sought refuge in Allah from these debilitating states, showing us the importance of this specific supplication.
