بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
*Bismillahil-ladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim*
When to Read
This powerful dua is recommended to be recited in the evening, as part of our nightly remembrance (adhkar). It serves as a shield against all forms of harm, including the unseen influences of jinn and the effects of sorcery, especially when we are most vulnerable during sleep.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere conviction and tawakkul (reliance) on Allah. Say it three times in the morning and three times in the evening. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, and focus on the meaning of the words, seeking Allah's protection explicitly.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that whoever recites this dua three times in the morning and three times in the evening will not be afflicted by anything harmful. This includes protection from physical ailments, unseen evils, and the harmful effects of magic or the jinn. It's a comprehensive supplication that covers protection in both the visible and invisible realms, by invoking the perfect name of Allah.

Narrated by Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "He who says: 'Bismillahil-ladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim' (In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing) - three times, will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the morning comes, and he who says it in the morning three times will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the evening comes." — Sunan Abu Dawud 5087. This hadith is considered Sahih by many scholars.
