Dua for Ease in the Evening: Seeking Allah's Protection

Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 763

O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this night, its opening, its help, its light, its blessings, and its guidance. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what comes after it.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khaira hadhihil-laylati, fatḥahā, wa naṣrahā, wa nūrahā, wa barakatahā, wa hudāhā, wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadhihil-layli wa sharri mā ba'dahā.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua is a beautiful way to start your evening with a conscious connection to Allah. It embodies humility, acknowledging our need for His guidance and protection. By asking for the 'opening, help, light, blessings, and guidance' of the night, we are essentially asking Allah to make our night productive, safe, illuminating, prosperous, and aligned with His will. Simultaneously, seeking refuge from its 'evil' covers any physical, spiritual, or emotional harm that might arise.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught his companions to say, when the evening came: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khaira hadhihil-laylati, fatḥahā, wa naṣrahā, wa nūrahā, wa barakatahā, wa hudāhā, wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadhihil-layli wa sharri mā ba'dahā.' (O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this night, its opening, its help, its light, its blessings, and its guidance. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what comes after it.)
