Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 735

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and deeds accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This powerful supplication is recommended to be recited at the end of the day, just before sleeping. It’s a beautiful way to conclude your day, seeking blessings for the knowledge you've gained, the sustenance you've received, and the actions you've performed, all while setting a positive intention for the coming night and the next day.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, with presence of heart. Reflect on each part of the supplication: acknowledging the importance of knowledge that benefits oneself and others, seeking provisions that are pure and lawful, and praying that your deeds are accepted by Allah, meaning they are done with sincerity and in accordance with His commands. It's a personal conversation with your Creator, best uttered when you are in a state of calm, ideally after performing your Isha prayer and preparing for rest.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a holistic request for well-being in this life and the hereafter. Seeking 'beneficial knowledge' ('ilman nafi'an) means knowledge that leads to good deeds and a deeper understanding of faith. Asking for 'pure provisions' (rizqan tayyiban) ensures that our sustenance is lawful and free from questionable sources, bringing barakah (blessing) to our lives. Finally, requesting 'deeds accepted' ('amalan mutaqabbalan) is crucial, as even our best efforts are of no value if not accepted by Allah. This supplication helps in reflecting on our day, seeking forgiveness for any shortcomings, and preparing ourselves spiritually for a restful and productive night, which can lead to a more fulfilling tomorrow.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say when he woke up in the morning: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and deeds accepted.' And when he slept at night, he would say: 'O Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord of the 'Arsh (Throne), our Lord and the Lord of all things, the Revealer of the Torah, the Injil, and the Qur'an, the One who splits the grain and the seed, the Revealer of the Qur'an, I seek refuge in You from the evil of every evil, and from the evil of every creature which You seize by its forelock. You are the First, there is nothing before You; You are the Last, there is nothing after You; You are the Apparent, there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden, there is nothing below You. Let us pay off our debt and enrich us from poverty.'
