Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt, the overpowering of enemies, the dominion of misery, the evil of deeds, and afflictions, both apparent and hidden.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa ghalabatil-'aduwwi wa ghalabatish-shaqa'i wa fawāḥishil-'amal wal-fitnati ma ẓahara minha wa ma baṭana.

Virtues & Benefits

This du'a is comprehensive, seeking Allah's refuge from several significant hardships. It encompasses protection from financial distress ('burden of debt'), vulnerability to those who wish you harm ('overpowering of enemies'), persistent unhappiness ('dominion of misery'), and falling into sinful or shameful acts ('evil of deeds'). It also seeks protection from trials and tribulations, both those that are obvious and those that are hidden, covering spiritual and worldly challenges. By seeking refuge in Allah, you are placing your trust in Him to shield you from these difficulties throughout the night and into the next day. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this du'a to his companions, showing its immense importance in seeking Allah's comprehensive protection.
