Invoking Allah's Name Upon Entering Home (Bismillah)

Entering Home
Sahih HadithDrinks 2018

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ

In the Name of Allah.

Bismillah

When to Read

This simple yet profound invocation should be recited immediately upon entering your home. It's a quick, conscious act of remembering Allah as you cross the threshold.

How to Read

Say 'Bismillah' with sincerity and awareness of its meaning. It's not just a verbal utterance, but a declaration that you are entering under Allah's protection and guidance, making Him your first point of reference in all your actions within the home. This should be a consistent practice, every time you enter your dwelling.

Virtues & Benefits

By invoking Allah's Name upon entering your home, you immediately repel Shaytan (Satan) and his influence. The Prophet ﷺ informed us that Shaytan tells his companions, 'You have no lodging and no supper' when Allah's Name is mentioned. This act establishes a spiritual boundary, protecting your home and family from the whispers and mischief of Shaytan, bringing tranquility and blessings into your living space. It ensures your home remains a place of peace and worship, rather than a place where Shaytan finds comfort.

Source & Authentication

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "When a man enters his house and mentions Allah's Name upon entering and upon eating, Shaytan says [to his companions], 'You have no lodging and no supper.' But if he enters without mentioning Allah's Name upon entering, Shaytan says, 'You have found lodging.' And if he does not mention Allah's Name upon eating, Shaytan says, 'You have found lodging and supper.'" — Sahih Muslim 2018
