السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَىٰ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) set out on a campaign, and the night grew dark, he would say: 'O earth, my Lord and your Lord is Allah. I seek refuge in Allah from your evil, and the evil of what is in you, and the evil of what has been created in you, and the evil of what travels [at night] upon you. I seek refuge in Allah from the lion and the black serpent, and from the serpent and the scorpion, and from the inhabitants of the land, and from the father and what he begets.' And when he entered upon the people, he would say: 'As-salamu 'alaykum' (Peace be upon you). It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that when he entered his house, he would say: 'As-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin' (Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah).
