When to Read

This dua is recited when entering your home. It's a beautiful way to begin your time within your dwelling, setting a tone of remembrance and reliance on Allah.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincerity as you cross the threshold of your home. Uttering it with awareness of its meaning – seeking Allah's name for both entry and exit, and acknowledging your complete reliance on Him – amplifies its impact. Imagine Allah's protection and blessings surrounding you as you say the words.

Virtues & Benefits

When a person recites this dua upon entering his home, Shaytan (Satan) says: 'You (the person entering) have no authority over us this night.' More importantly, when this dua is recited, it is said that angels descend and say: 'You have been guided, you have been protected, and blessings are upon you.' This dua essentially invites Allah's protection and the presence of benevolent angels into your home, warding off evil influences and bringing peace and barakah (blessings).

Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "When a man mentions the name of Allah, the Exalted, upon entering his house and upon eating his food, Satan says: 'This house is safe for me and my brethren. And if he enters without mentioning the name of Allah, the Exalted, Satan says: 'You have found lodging.' And if he does not mention the name of Allah upon eating his food, Satan says: 'You have found lodging and food.'" (Sahih Muslim 1805). Another narration from Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When a person enters his house and remembers Allah the Almighty at the time of his entering and at the time of his eating, then Satan says: 'We have no place to spend the night and no dinner.' But when he enters without remembering Allah the Almighty at the time of his entering, Satan says: 'We have found a place to spend the night.' And when he does not remember Allah the Almighty at the time of his eating, Satan says: 'We have found a place to spend the night and dinner.'" (Sahih Muslim 1804). While the exact phrasing 'attract angels' isn't directly in the text, the implication of divine protection and warding off shaytan invokes their presence and blessing in a manner that spiritually purifies the home.
