بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah our Lord we put our trust.
Bismillah, walajna, wa bismillah kharajna, wa 'ala Rabbina tawakkalna
When to Read
This dua is recited specifically when entering one's home, whether it's a place of residence, a shop, or any other dwelling. It's a beautiful practice to invoke Allah's name and seek His protection as you cross the threshold.
How to Read
Recite this supplication with sincerity and full presence of mind as you are about to enter your home. It's recommended to say it before or as you step inside. Accompanying this dua, one should also make a habit of remembering Allah's name (Bismillah) before eating, drinking, or engaging in other activities within the home, as this general remembrance also wards off Shayateen.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua invokes Allah's name and His protection, serving as a shield against the whispers and interference of Jinn and Shayateen. By beginning with 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah), we declare our reliance on Him and acknowledge that our entry and exit are under His dominion. The mention of trusting in 'our Lord' (Rabbina tawakkalna) solidifies this reliance, ensuring that the home is entered under Allah's care, thus deterring evil influences from entering or causing harm within.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When a man enters his house and remembers Allah the Mighty and Majestic at the time of his entry and at the time of his food, then Satan says: 'You have no place to pass the night and no food.' When he enters and does not remember Allah the Mighty and Majestic at the time of his entry, Satan says: 'You have found a place to pass the night.' And when he does not remember Allah the Mighty and Majestic at the time of his food, Satan says: 'You have found a place to pass the night and food.'
