Entering Home

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq

When to Read

This dua is recommended to be recited when entering your home. It serves as a powerful invocation for protection as you cross the threshold, seeking Allah's safeguard against any potential harm or misfortune that might be present or enter the home.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely as you enter your home. It's a moment to consciously turn to Allah, acknowledging His power and seeking His protection. While the words themselves are potent, the focus and intention behind them are key. Some scholars also mention reciting Bismillah (In the name of Allah) before this dua when entering.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua offers a profound shield from various forms of evil and misfortune. The 'perfect words of Allah' encompass His divine decree and His creation, meaning you are seeking refuge in the totality of His power and protection against anything harmful He has brought into existence. This act of seeking refuge demonstrates Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and reliance on Him, drawing His especial care and watchfulness over your home and family.

Source & Authentication

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When any one of you alights at a halting place, he should say: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.' Nothing will harm him until he moves from that halting place." Sahih Muslim 2708. Although this hadith specifically mentions a 'halting place', the general principle of seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words applies to any entry into a place, including one's own home, to ward off potential harm.
