Entering Home
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3765

بِسْمِ اللهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

In Allah's name we enter, and in Allah's name we leave, and in Allah our Lord we put our trust.

Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'alallahi Rabbina tawakkalna.

When to Read

This dua is recommended to be recited whenever you enter your home, whether it's your permanent residence or a temporary dwelling. It's a beautiful reminder to anchor ourselves in Allah's name and seek His blessings and protection as we cross the threshold into our personal space.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely, with full awareness of its meaning. It's a beautiful practice to say it as you physically enter your home, perhaps while placing your right foot first, following the Sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ for entering any place.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua invokes Allah's name for both entry and exit, signifying that our entire experience within the home – from coming in to going out – is under His care. It cultivates a sense of reliance on Allah (tawakkul) for safety, peace, and harmony within the family. By starting and ending our time at home with Allah's name, we seek His protection against all forms of harm, including internal strife, disputes, and discord that can arise within a family. It's a spiritual shield for our homes and our relationships.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When a man leaves his house and says: Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'alallahi Rabbina tawakkalna. Then his Lord says to him: You have been sufficed and protected.' So the devil retreats from him. And when he enters his house and says: Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'alallahi Rabbina tawakkalna. Then his Lord says to him: Welcome, O My servant. You have been sufficed and protected.'
