Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3764

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we exit, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.

Bismillah walajna, wa bismillah kharajna, wa 'ala Allahi Rabbina tawakkalna.

When to Read

This dua is recited when entering your home. It's a beautiful practice to invoke Allah's name and blessings upon your dwelling, seeking His protection for all who reside within.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely with the intention of seeking Allah's protection for your home and family. It's a simple yet profound way to acknowledge Allah's presence and sovereignty in your life and your dwelling.

Virtues & Benefits

By reciting this dua, you invite Allah's blessings and protection into your home. It signifies Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) as you enter your safe haven. While this specific wording doesn't directly mention protection from gossip and backbiting, the general principle of seeking Allah's protection encompasses all forms of harm, including the spiritual and social ills that can affect a household. By remembering Allah upon entering, we remind ourselves to conduct ourselves in ways that are pleasing to Him, which includes guarding our tongues and fostering a positive environment.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abu Malik al-Ash'ari: When a man goes into his house and says: 'O Allah, I ask You for the good of entering, and the good of going out, in the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we exit, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust,' then Satan says to him: 'You are safe from me.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 3764, Sunan Ibn Majah 3899). While the primary focus of this hadith is general protection, the principle extends to safeguarding the sanctity of the home from all negativity.
