O Allah, I ask You for good when entering and good when exiting. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we exit, and upon Allah, our Lord, we place our reliance.
Allahumma inni as'aluka khayral mawliji wa khayral makhraji, bismillahi walajna wa bismillahi kharajna wa 'alaallahi rabbina tawakkalna.
When to Read
Recite this dua immediately as you enter your home. It's a beautiful practice to say it upon crossing the threshold, just before greeting your family. It serves as a spiritual 'reset' as you transition from the outside world into your personal sanctuary, setting a positive tone for your time indoors.
How to Read
Say this dua clearly and with a present heart as you step into your home. The Prophet ﷺ also advised greeting your family after saying this dua. This practice of vocalizing the remembrance of Allah and then extending greetings creates an immediate atmosphere of peace and blessings, inviting tranquility and warding off spiritual lassitude from the very moment you cross your door.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua transforms a simple daily act into an opportunity for deep spiritual connection and protection. By asking Allah for 'good' upon entry and exit, you are invoking His blessings for every aspect of your time at home — your interactions, your rest, your work, and your worship. This conscious remembrance of Allah immediately helps repel the subtle creep of **inner neglect and spiritual emptiness**. It ensures that your home remains a haven filled with Allah's remembrance, peace, and spiritual vitality, rather than becoming a place where the heart grows heedless. Furthermore, affirming reliance on Allah (tawakkul) ensures that you enter with a sense of calm and trust, knowing that He is the ultimate protector and provider of all good, and that this reliance extends to the spiritual well-being of your household. The mention of Allah's name also serves as a potent shield against Shaytan, who finds no refuge in a home where Allah is remembered.

Narrated Abu Malik Ash'ari: When a man enters his house, he should say: "O Allah! I ask You for good when entering and good when exiting. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah, our Lord, we rely." He should then greet his family. — Sunan Abi Dawud 5096 (graded Sahih by Al-Albani)
