بِسْمِ اللهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.
Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Rabbina tawakkalna.
When to Read
This dua is recommended to be recited upon entering any home, including your own. It's a beautiful way to commence your entry by invoking Allah's name and acknowledging His providence over both your arrival and departure, as well as placing your reliance on Him for all matters, including your sustenance and well-being within the home.
How to Read
Recite this sincerely with full presence of heart, uttering the Arabic words clearly. It's meant to be said as you cross the threshold of the door. The act of reciting it reminds us that even our homes, our places of rest and sustenance, are blessings from Allah, and our entry and exit are governed by His will. If you are entering someone else's home, you can adapt it slightly, or simply say Bismillah and send blessings upon them.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting 'Bismillah' before any action is a sunnah that invites Allah's blessing and protection. This specific dua, upon entering a home, encompasses seeking Allah's protection, acknowledging His ownership, and affirming our reliance on Him. When we enter our homes with 'Bismillah,' we are essentially asking Allah to bless our dwelling and whatever sustenance He has provided within it. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When a man says Bismillah, Satan says: 'He has been saved from me for the rest of the day.' (Sahih Muslim 2019) While this specific hadith refers to eating, the principle of invoking Allah's name for protection and blessing applies broadly to entering our homes and engaging in its activities.
