بِسْمِ اللهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we exit, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.
Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'alallahi Rabbina tawakkalna.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when entering his home. It's a wonderful practice to adopt when you enter your own home, whether it's after a long day, a short errand, or even when visiting someone else's home. It sets a spiritual tone for the space you are entering, invoking Allah's presence and blessing.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely upon entering your home. You can say it aloud or silently, but always with a heart filled with remembrance of Allah and reliance on Him. The key is the intention: to bless your entry and your home with His name and to acknowledge that all your comings and goings are under His care. It’s also good practice to make dua for your family and the atmosphere of the home once inside.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua at the start of entering your home has several profound benefits. Firstly, it signifies that your home is not just a physical space, but a place blessed by the name of Allah. This act of remembrance, as taught by the Prophet ﷺ, keeps Shaitan (Satan) away. If you say this when you enter and make mention of Allah's name when eating, Shaitan says, 'You have no place to spend the night and no food.' (Sahih Muslim 2018). This dua also fosters a sense of reliance on Allah (tawakkul) for protection and well-being within your household, reminding us that our safety and blessings come from Him alone. It establishes a pattern of turning to Allah for all aspects of our lives, including the sanctuary of our homes, cultivating an environment of honesty and integrity by invoking His name.
Source & Authentication
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he reached his home, said: Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'alallahi Rabbina tawakkalna. (Sahih Muslim 1804). Another narration mentions: When a man says Bismillah when entering his house and when eating, Satan says: 'I cannot pass the night in your house or eat your food.' When he enters without mentioning Allah's name, Satan says: 'I have found a place to spend the night.' When he does not mention Allah's name at the time of eating, Satan says: 'I have found a place to spend the night and eat.' (Sahih Muslim 2018).
