بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

In Allah's name we enter, and in Allah's name we leave, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.

Bismillah wa lajna, wa bismillah kharajna, wa 'ala Allah Rabbina tawakkalna

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited when you are entering your home. It's a comprehensive invocation, covering not just your physical entry but also your spiritual state and your reliance on Allah. By reciting this as you cross the threshold, you are essentially asking Allah to bless your entry, safeguard you from any harm or negativity within the home, and affirm your trust in Him for both entering and leaving.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely as you are about to enter your home. It's a simple yet profound statement of faith. Start with 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) as you begin the action of entering, acknowledging that all actions are done by His grace and should be commenced with His mention. The entire dua serves as a holistic prayer for well-being and protection tied to your dwelling.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the essence of a believer's approach to their home. It signifies: 1. **Tawakkul (Reliance on Allah):** By saying 'wa 'ala Allah Rabbina tawakkalna', you're affirming that your security and well-being within and outside your home are ultimately in Allah's hands. This reduces anxiety and fosters inner peace. 2. **Seeking Barakah (Blessings):** Invoking Allah's name at the start of entering brings His blessings into your home, making it a place of tranquility and safety. 3. **Protection:** While not explicitly mentioning 'enemies' in the direct sense, this dua broadly seeks Allah's protection from all forms of evil, harm, and negative influences that might befall you in your home or when you leave it.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Busr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when he used to come to the people, he would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra al-mawlid wa khayra al-makhraj. Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Allah Rabbina tawakkalna.' (O Allah, I ask You for the best of the entry and the best of the exit. In Allah's name we enter, and in Allah's name we leave, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.) [The narration is often cited with variations on the full statement of the Prophet ﷺ when entering a home, but the core dua for entry and exit is well-established. This version from Sunan Abi Dawud is commonly taught for entering one's home.]
