Source & Authentication

Narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) say: "When a man enters his house and mentions the name of Allah at the time of entering and at the time of eating, Shaytan says: 'You have no place to pass the night and no food.' When he enters without mentioning the name of Allah, Shaytan says: 'You have found a place to pass the night.' When he does not mention the name of Allah at the time of eating, Shaytan says: 'You have found a place to pass the night and food.'" (Sahih Muslim 1805). An alternate narration for entering the house and eating is: "Bismillah walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Rabbina tawakkalna." (May Allah have mercy on Abu Nu'aym, for he said this on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace be upon him)).
